I remember back when I was ten,
Oh how I long to go back there again.
Life was simple and complete,
Little things made a great treat.
Running barefoot across the grass,
Watching the campfire burn to ash.
Walking along the banks of Ole Pennington,
Soaking up the Oklahoma sun.
Meeting there once a year,
Sharing the laughter, trading a tear.
It's been awhile since I've walked
the banks of Ole Pennington,
It lingers in my mind returning
me to age ten.
Dancing in the moonlight,
With our aunts who stayed up
late at night,
While the uncles played cards
and talked the talk,
Mom and Dad they walked
the walk.
New cousins each year we
would meet,
And at the dinner table we
all scampered for the best seat.
I can still feel the stickers in my
feet,
Those memories I just couldn't
delete.
The previous year,
would often bring a tear,
when a loved one would cause
a tear in our eye,
as they met their maker
up in the sky.
How I'd love to go back when
I was ten,
And walk the banks of the Ole
Pennington.
Our footprints have faded,
The sun has become shaded,
as the family fades into another
memory,
And we no longer are young
enough to see,
Back when I was ten playing
in the sun,
On the banks of Ole Pennington.
